Spanish Exchange Visit to Darlington, March 2011

On Tuesday 22nd March a group of 19 Spanish students and 2 teachers, from our twin school ‘Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados’ in Ibi, arrived in Darlington for a week long exchange visit.  The pupils were hosted by Carmel pupils from Y8 – Y12.  The students visited Durham, Beamish museum and York during their stay.  They also spent a morning in the college and participated in some Y8 Spanish lessons where they taught Carmel pupils some traditional Spanish songs.

The visit was rounded off with a fabulous farewell disco, with the highlight of the night being the ‘Macarena’!  The pupils were sad to say ‘adiós’ but are all looking forward to keeping in touch with their new friends and hopefully having the chance to return to Spain in the near future.

Y9 Spanish Citizenship Task – due last lesson this term

This Citizenship task is a chance for you to improve your knowledge of Spain, develop your research skills and demonstrate how you can explore and use different sources of information.

You must download the attached document and complete each section in as much detail as possible in English.  You should also add images.  The task must be completed in your own words, therefore you are not allowed to copy and paste information from websites you use for research.

Also remember to check the Citizenship Level Descriptors to see what citizenship level you are working at (see attached document).  To achieve a Level 5 you must include lots of personal opinions and detailed comparisons of Spain and the UK.

Y10 Spanish Citizenship Task

You must research the phenomenon of the ‘botellón’ in Spain and write an essay in English, giving as much detail and as many statistics as you can.  In your assignment you should aim to answer the following questions:

  • What is a ‘botellón’?
  • Why is it such a problem in Spain?
  • Are the people involved in this activity fulfilling their rights and responsibilities as citizens of a society?
  • What would the young people say to defend what they are doing?  Would the local people agree?  Who would be in the right?
  • What could be done to solve the problem?
  • In your opinion, how does it compare with binge drinking in England?

You can produce your essay using word or powerpoint.  Remember to include pictures, facts and figures and lots of information.

8A Spanish Homework (Miss O’Brien) Hola

This is to remind you about your Spanish homework which is due on Friday 1st October 2010.
You must get 5 pictures of people from the Internet or cut out from a magazine and glue them across a double spread in your exercise book. For each person, complete a speech bubble in which they say ‘hello’ (in Spanish) and say ‘I am called….’ and ‘I am….years old’)

Hola= hello

Me llamo…= I am called

Tengo….años= I am….years old

BONUS POINTS: Add in some extra language if you wish!
